GUBI’s Tropique outdoor table exudes an air of glamour and luxury, particularly that of times past. Designed by Mathieu Matégot in 1951, the patio table comprises a slender, playfully curved metal frame and a perforated table top that allows sunlight to travel through, creating lovely patterns in its surroundings.

The Tropique outdoor collection was designed in the 1950s and relaunched by GUBI in 2022 as part of the GUBI goes al fresco range. Although Tropique was out of production for several decades, it remains as one of the few collections that most shaped Matégot’s early career with its decadent aesthetic inspired by life in mid-20th century Côte d’Azur – the furniture series makes one think of luxury hotels, champagne towers and indescribably beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Gubi Olsen and his wife Lisbeth Olsen founded GUBI in 1967. The company has been based since the beginning on product design and development. Over the years, the two designers have created a large collection of upholstered furniture and a furniture fabric, called Holmens Klæde.

Since 1967, GUBI’s core philosophy has been to create timeless designs, with aesthetics, innovation, functionality and quality as guiding principles. GUBI’s many new designs are developed partly in cooperation with designers who have previously left their mark on GUBI products and partly in association with a number of new designers who, in turn, will add new stories to the GUBI saga.
