Aalto vase 140 mm, recycled glass

Iittala’s Aalto vase, made from recycled glass, was launched in a lower 140 mm size in celebration of the brand’s 140th anniversary in 2021. The special edition vases are crafted using waste glass from the Iittala glassworks and blown into a wooden mould that gives the glass an organic, varied texture.

Originally designed by Alvar Aalto in the 1930s, the Aalto vase has become one of the most iconic pieces of Finnish design and glass art. Characterised by an organic, ambiguous shape, the piece is even more fascinating made from recycled materials: the vases are made of whatever waste glass is available at the time, meaning that their hues may vary from blues and greens to neutral tones. Due to the recycling process, mould material and the traditional manufacturing method, each individual vase has its own characteristics that make it uniquely captivating and truly one of a kind.
