Year Bird 2022 Poppy

Kay Bojesen's Songbird family has grown with one new member: Year Bird. One new Bird of the Year is published each year and is only sold in the launched year. The Bird of the Year is slightly smaller than the original Songbirds but just as charming!

Year Bird 2022 is called Poppy. It is inspired by the calm and presence of the designer Kay Bojesen himself. Moderate colours are a reminder that you need to be deeply focused and present to create something new. 

Inspired by the birds visiting his patio, Bojesen designed the Songbirds in the 1950s and named the original birds after his family members. After finding pictures of the cheerful beech birds in the family's old photo album, they were later added to the collection of Bojesen's animal figurines. The birds have a clean, modern expression, stripped of superfluous details, and yet are so lifelike that it is easy to imagine them breaking out in song as the sun rises.

Kay Bojesen Denmark's beloved wooden animals are cherished classics around the world, adored by both children and adults. Made from oak, maple, and teak, these gentle and sturdy play animals have been treasured heirlooms for generations since the 1950s. Danish designer Kay Bojesen created his first wooden animal back in 1934 – a dachshund with a charmingly tilted head. In the following decades, Bojesen designed a wide array of animals, the most famous being the wooden monkey, created in 1951.
