U4 Hiti table lamp, black oak - opal glass

The Hiti table lamp from FDB Møbler boasts a minimalist design strongly based on the Danish design tradition but with nuances from modern times and overseas cultures. The luminaire, designed by Philip Bro and Dögg Guðmundsdóttir, consists of an opal glass shade carried by a wooden structure reminiscent of classic Danish furniture designs.

Both designers are based in Denmark but were born elsewhere: Philip Bro in Australia and Guðmundsdóttir in Iceland. The distinctive design of the Hiti luminaire can be seen as a combination of a modern expression, timeless Danish design and influences from the birthplaces of the designers.

Danish FDB Møbler is strongly rooted in the icons of Danish furniture design. FDB, the Danish Consumers’ Co-operative Society, was founded in 1940 to produce functionalist and democratic design for ordinary people – thanks to the new industrial production, FDB could manufacture high-quality furniture at low prices. During the next decades, designers such as Børge Mogensen and Poul M. Volther created numerous timeless pieces of Danish furniture design. FDB closed its factory in 1980, but in 2013 the Danish Coop launched FDB Møbler and started re-releasing some of the most beloved products of the mid-century Danish design. In addition to the classics, FDB Møbler creates new furniture inspired by the old collections.
