Serpentine sofa, white, outdoors

Eléonore Nalet designed the Serpentine sofa for Ligne Roset in 2018. The sofa was designed to pair the Serpentine chair, which Nalet had designed in 2012. Originally the Serpentine chair was produced with a steel structure, but with the relaunch in 2018, the structure changed into aluminium, making the furniture lighter and easier to move around.

The backrest of the Serpentine furniture is composed of an interwoven cushion from which the series also got its name. The Serpentine furniture is suitable for outdoor use all year round, as the padding can be removed. Ligne Roset is a French furniture company with a long and eventful history. Antoine Roset founded the company in 1860 when it began as a wood processing factory. Later, the company began manufacturing walking sticks, wooden umbrellas, and chair frames.

The focus of the family business changed significantly in the 1950s when it began to contract furniture such as tables, chairs, and beds for schools and hospitals. Ligne Roset began to grow rapidly and soon they started a new chapter by entering the domestic market.

At the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, Ligne Roset began collaborating more with interior architects and designers to enrich their business operations. One of these designers was Michel Ducaroy. Ligne Roset’s first store was opened in 1973, and it was the same year as Michel Ducaroy’s Togo sofa was launched. Togo series is considered to be probably Ligne Roset’s best-known product to date. Nowadays Ligne Roset designs and manufactures furniture, lighting and textiles.
