Artek's Safari chair was designed by Ben af Schultén in 1979. With its iconic design, this dining chair is one of the most beloved classics of Finnish design. The stylish chair N11P was originally known as chair N113.

A masterpiece of modern furniture design, the Safari chair comes with a crisp birch frame. Upholstered in canvas or natural cowhide, chair 411P is comfortable enough to allow sitting for long periods of time.

As a Design Director at Artek, Ben af Schultén designed a wide range of lighting pieces and furniture. First joining the company as a design student, over the years the designer created furniture, such as Safari armchair 411, that left a lasting legacy.

Artek was founded in 1935 by four young idealists – Alvar and Aino Aalto, Nils-Gustav Hahl and Maire Gullichsen published a design manifesto inspired by functionalism, stating that Artek’s aim was “to sell furniture and to promote modern culture of habitation by exhibitions and other means”. Since its foundation, Artek has played in the intersection of design, architecture, and art, making Finnish design and Alvar Aalto's furniture known all over the world.
