Riihitie plant pot B, FDS 15 Years, medium, matt linen

Artek’s Riihitie plant pots were originally designed by Aino Aalto to be used on the terrace of her own home. The curved, organically shaped planters that were presented at the Paris World Fair in 1937 did not make to serial production at the time, but nowadays the handmade ceramic pots, named after Alvar and Aino Aalto’s home street in Helsinki, have become hugely popular design objects and cherished gifts. The colour chosen for the special edition plant pots, designed for Finnish Design Shop’s 15th anniversary, was inspired by Aalto’s archives. The greenish linen colour is beautifully highlighted by the matt finish on the outside of the pot; the inside has a glossy finish. The Riihitie plant pot in linen is available in two sizes.

Aino Aalto

Artek was founded in 1935 by four young idealists – Alvar and Aino Aalto, Nils-Gustav Hahl and Maire Gullichsen published a design manifesto inspired by functionalism, stating that Artek’s aim was “to sell furniture and to promote modern culture of habitation by exhibitions and other means”. Since its foundation, Artek has played in the intersection of design, architecture, and art, making Finnish design and Alvar Aalto's furniture known all over the world.
