A Rut Bryk Karjalainen Talo 'Karelian House' Blue Ceramic Wall Plaque, 1950s

An beautiful piece of art by one of the leading names of the mid-century Finnish ceramic scene. This large and colorful wall plaque made by Rut Bryk (1916-1999) called the "Karjalainen talo" or Carelian house, is one of the pieces that belongs to a carelian town series designed by Bryk. Bryk was never fond of rules, and never liked to explain her works. However, the loss of Karelia to the Soviet Union in the 1940s marked the loss of a summer paradise to Bryk, as she spent a lot of summers in Karelia as a child.
