Miranda serving bowl, brown

Nuutajärvi Glassworks Miranda serving bowl is part of the glass series designed by Heikki Orvola in 1971. Miranda combines a beautiful design with textured, half-circle decoration that reflects light in an elegant way. The brown Miranda serving bowl is ideal for serving both salty snacks and sweet desserts. Miranda makes also a beautiful decorative item for the kitchen.

The Miranda series was in production at the Nuutajärvi glass factory in 1971-1975. In addition to the serving bowl, the series also included a large serving bowl, candle holder, serving plate, platter, sugar bowl and a creamer. The pressed glass series was made in brown, clear, green and turquoise.

Nuutajärvi Glassworks was established in Urjala in 1793, and until 2014 it was the oldest glass factory still operating in Finland. The Nuutajärvi glass factory area is nowadays listed among the nationally important built cultural environments by The National Board of Antiquities. During its long history, Nuutajärvi Glassworks manufactured everything from window glass to design glass.

Kaj Franck was the longest-running artistic director of the Nuutajärvi Glassworks between 1951 and 1973. The glass factory also employed several other well-known Finnish glass designers such as Gunnel Nyman, Saara Hopea, Oiva Toikka, Heikki Orvola and Kerttu Nurminen. Independent glass designers and artists still work and manufacture glass objects at the Nuutajärvi glass factory area. The Nuutajärvi Glass Museum Prykäri, designed by Kaj Franck, also locates in the area.
