Vaarnii’s pinewood coffee table is sure to catch the eye, whether due to its exaggerated proportions or the unusual choice of joinery. Created by Soft Baroque, the design draws from traditional joints often used in Finnish log cabins to create a striking construction that is also incredibly strong and solid: the coffee table is sturdy enough to sit, stand or even dance on!

The coffee table is made from Finnish uncultivated pinewood, an often overlooked yet exceptionally characterful material. In addition to its lively grain and knots that make each table unique, the wood is characterised by oils and resins that react to UV rays and slowly turn the table’s colour into a rich, honey-like shade. Therefore, the coffee table will only become more fascinating as it ages and is used – or danced on.

Soft Baroque

Vaarnii is a Finnish design brand that launched in 2021. In their design, the brand draws on traditional furniture, which, in the past, used to be made using local, abundant materials. Inspired by this notion, Vaarnii's furniture is also based on practicality and locally available materials – Finnish pine wood has played a key role in many of Vaarnii’s collections.

The name Vaarnii is a combination of the words “vaarna”, Finnish for dowel, and “saarni”, Finnish for ash. The name refers to the carpenters and other artisans behind each product as well as to honest natural materials: all of Vaarnii’s furniture and home accessories showcase both the people who made them and the materials used, deliberately incorporating each material’s natural characteristics into the design, and even emphasizing them. The end result is a distinct collection of furniture that combines sophistication with raw, brutal aesthetics.
