Yrjö Kukkapuro’s Triennale chair celebrates the elements that define the designer’s work. In this chair, a characteristically lightweight metal frame, wooden seat components, and loose cushions come together to form a clean, balanced silhouette — one that is just as pleasing to the eye today as it was in 1960, when the chair made its debut at the Milan Triennale, from which it also takes its name.

The original Triennale chair was a prototype that remained unseen for decades, now returning to delight a new generation of design enthusiasts. The new version is faithful to the original with only a subtle adjustment: a slightly higher backrest, added in response to the increase in average human height. This small yet meaningful refinement enhances comfort and brings this classic gracefully into the present day.

Yrjö Kukkapuro

Yrjö Kukkapuro (1933–2025) was one of the most prominent names in Finnish furniture design. Having begun his career as early as the 1950s, Kukkapuro always aimed for a seamless combination of aesthetics and functionality, regardless of whether he was working on more artistic project or something entirely practical, such as an office chair collection. User experience and ergonomics were central to his design work: “Does it make any sense to design a chair which is not good to sit on?” he often said. During his long career, Kukkapuro designed numerous pieces of furniture that have become sought-after design classics, such as the iconic Remmi series and the Ateljee armchair and sofa.
