Moomin Day 9.8. is Tove Jansson's birthday, and the mug's illustration was inspired by Tove Jansson's 1955 drawing for the London newspaper (Associated Newspapers). The island visible in the landscape illustration is the island of Tove and his brother Lars in Pelling, off Porvoo.
