Arabia's Home Moomin mug was released in 2025 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Moomin stories – a tribute to the Moominhouse, a symbol of love, friendship and unconditional acceptance. The mug is part of a limited-edition series of 8,000 individually hand-painted pieces. Each mug features a special Moomin 80 anniversary stamp on the base, along with a unique number and the initials of the artisan who painted it.

The design of the Home mug is inspired by the final scenes of The Moomins and the Great Flood, where the Moomin family arrives in a beautiful valley and is finally reunited – and finds a home. At the centre of the illustration is the Moominhouse, hand-painted based on Tove Jansson’s original drawing. The artwork was created by Parvati Pillai from the Moomin Arabia design team.

This collectible was available exclusively through an online lottery held during the anniversary week from 12 to 17 March 2025. Two mugs were given special distinction: mug number one was reserved for the First Lady of Finland, Suzanne Innes-Stubb, and mug number two was gifted to Sophia Jansson, niece of Tove Jansson and a guardian of the Moomin legacy.

Arabia’s first Moomin tableware appeared in the 1950s, but larger-scale production began in 1990. The cheerful characters featured on the ceramics are based on Tove Jansson’s original illustrations. The Moomin collection is built on the timeless and functional Teema series, designed by Kaj Franck.

Parvati Pillai

Moomin Arabia is a collection of Moomin products by Arabia, one of Finland's most renowned brands. The residents of Moominvalley first appeared as ceramic designs in the 1950s when artist Tove Jansson created Moomin-themed dishes and her mother, Signe "Ham" Hammarsten Jansson, crafted ceramic Moomin figures. In the 1990s, Moomin mugs designed by illustrator Tove Slotte quickly became favourites among both children and adults. Since then, Moomin Arabia products have been cherished as delightful everyday items and valuable collectibles worldwide. Today, the collection includes not only dishware but also textiles.
