Eames Fiberglass Armchair with Steinberg Cat

Vitra and Herman Miller released a limited edition of 500 fibreglass chairs in the summer of 2023 that featured a drawing of a cat by Eames' close friend, artist Saul Steinberg. The limited-edition fibreglass chairs depict Saul's drawing, which he made on the fibreglass shell of an Eames chair during a visit to Charles and Ray Eames in the 1950s.

Vitra’s Eames RAR rocking chair is a charming combination of a plastic seat, chromed metal frame and wooden legs. The name RAR comes from the words Rocking Armchair Rod Base. The cream-coloured model was a special edition, only available for a limited time.

Designed by Charles and Ray Eames, the plastic Eames chairs are true design icons of the 1950s. Their popularity lies in the timeless, ergonomic design and various leg options. The original model with a fiberglass seat was the first industrially produced plastic chair. Today, the seat of Eames chair is made of polypropylene.
