Bright White 1 bright light table lamp

Ville Kokkonen designed the Bright White 1 bright light table lamp for Artek in 2010. It is part of the White collection, which was launched at the Milan International Furniture Fair and Lighting Exhibition 2011. Kokkonen spent almost two years creating the collection. Kokkonen researched the use of luminaires in homes, offices and public spaces, as well as the effects of light on people's well-being.

The idea of the stylish and streamlined White collection is that the viewer would only pay attention to the soft light produced by the luminaire and not to the luminaire itself. Made of white painted birch plywood, the Bright White 1 table lamp is a certified bright light therapy device. Thanks to the dimmer, the table lamp can also be used to create ambient lighting. The White collection includes also a table lamp, a pendant lamp, a wall and a ceiling lamp.

Artek was founded in 1935 by four young idealists – Alvar and Aino Aalto, Nils-Gustav Hahl and Maire Gullichsen published a design manifesto inspired by functionalism, stating that Artek’s aim was “to sell furniture and to promote modern culture of habitation by exhibitions and other means”. Since its foundation, Artek has played in the intersection of design, architecture, and art, making Finnish design and Alvar Aalto's furniture known all over the world.
