Iittala’s Aarre wall jewels were inspired by Oiva Toikka’s glass art. Markku Salo gazed at the sky, Anu Penttinen immersed herself in the underwater world and Elina and Klaus Aalto examined the flora. The designers created the imaginative collection under the guidance of Toikka himself. Each hand-blown piece is unique with slight variation in hue and details. Aarre, Finnish for treasure, is a piece of art that can also display your other precious items.

The Finnish designer and glassmaker Anu Penttinen (b. 1974) graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2002. In 2003 she founded her own design company, Nounou Design, specialized in handblown and unique art glass objects and later on also in glass objects in serial production.
Functionality and enduring design are in the core of the design philosophy of the Finnish glassware company Iiittala. Founded in 1881, Iittala started as a glass manufacturer, and today, glass and art glass are still an essential part of its heritage. Perhaps the most famous singular object of Finnish design, the Aalto vase, was designed for Iittala in 1936 by Alvar Aalto.
